Skiing in the southern hemisphere

When summer arrives in Europe, winter starts in Australia and New Zealand. So if you can't do without winter sports between mid-June and early October, it's worth a trip to the other side of the globe, where the best conditions prevail at this time of year.

Australia's most important ski resorts include Perisher, the country's largest ski resort with over 100 pistes, and Thredbo, known for its particularly challenging pistes in the state of New South Wales. In neighbouring Victoria, Mt Buller or Falls Creek with its four fun parks attract winter sports enthusiasts.

Great ski resorts also await you in the New Zealand Alps, which stretch for about 500 kilometres across the South Island. Especially around Queenstown there are many popular areas like Treble Cone, The Remarkables or Coronet Peak. However, New Zealand's largest ski resort is on the North Island: Whakapapa with its extensive pistes stretches over the active volcano Mt Ruapehu. Not only unique skiing pleasure awaits you here, but also an impressive panorama of the Tongariro National Park.
