The slopes at Hintertux Glacier extend from 1,500 to 3,250 metres above sea level. Ski operations in the highest sectors generally begin in early autumn and continue well into early summer. While other Austrian ski areas are still waiting to open or have already ended their seasons, Hintertux often continues to offer groomed glacier pistes. Snowmaking supports the natural snow cover in the lower sectors.
However, skiing is no longer guaranteed on 365 days of the year. The cable cars remain open throughout the year for sightseeing visitors, but actual ski operations depend on snow cover, temperatures and weather conditions. The valley run and the Sommerberg sector also only open when there is sufficient snow. Within its regular ski season, Hintertux nevertheless remains one of Austria’s most snow-reliable ski areas.
