Durango is a family resort – no big apres ski party scene!

The ski town Purgatory and the Durango Mountain Resort are located approximately 31 miles (50km) north of Durango. If you don't want to drive anywhere, you'll have limited options in Purgatory. If the weather is nice, we recommend Purgy's at the base terminal of the Purgatory Village Express, where you can catch some rays while enjoying your warm (or cold) drink and relaxing on one of the loungers. Purgatory shows its peaceful side at night, but if you decide to drive to Durango, you'll find quite a few bars and clubs in the city of 15,000 inhabitants. Though the city itself has little flair, the Abbey Theater on East College Drive does have regular live music. For lunch we recommend hitting either Powderhouse off the Engineer lift or the Backside Bistro off the Grizzly, both of which have a comfortable cafeteria atmosphere.
