Travel Deals & Tips

Skiing at Bungsberg, Arber, Zugspitze & Co.

Skiing is among Germany’s most popular sports. More than 14 million Germans hit the countless trails on either boards or skis every single year. That’s not really surprising since a lot of low mountain ranges boasting pure skiing fun are right out of the door. The region of Eifel is equally great for skiing as famous regions like Harz or the Swabian Alb. The most popular regions are the Bavarian Forest and the Black Forest in Baden-Wurttemberg.

Both have several small ski resorts with easier runs to offer and are just perfect for a family outing. Don’t worry, experts won’t miss out and will be pleased with one or the other challenge. The highest peak of the Bavarian forest is the Arber featuring a height of 1,455 meters (4,773 ft). The Black Forest even has a FIS-slope at its highest summit Feldberg (1,493 m/4,898 ft). Locals in Central Germany love hotspots like Winterberg, Willingen and Oberwiesenthal.

In case you can’t roll without the typical Alpine feeling, head to the Bavarian Alps. Spitzingsee, Sudelfeld or Brauneck are the most visited ski resorts in this region. Nevertheless, most skiers share one dream: skiing at Germany’s highest mountain, Zugspitze. With 2,962 meters (8,832 ft) it tops all other mountain on Germany territory.
