Vail Resorts makes $1.4 billion takeover offer for Whistler Blackcomb

A spectacular deal in the North American skiing business has been announced. Colorado based Vail Resorts is buying the largest ski resort in North America, Whistler Blackcomb in Canada for $1.4B. Park City, Heavenly and Vail are already owned by the Vail Resorts.

On August 8th 2016, Vail Resorts located in Broomfield, Colorado announced the takeover of Whistler Blackcomb. The listed company pays an incredible amount of $1.4B.

Whistler Blackcomb located just 75 miles out of Vancouver, British Columbia covers about 3.300 hectare of slopes and 30 lifts, making it the largest ski resort in North America. The ski resort stretches out over the two mountains Whistler and Blackcomb and is elevated 675 - 2.284 meters above sea level. With guaranteed great snow conditions, the season usually already starts in November and sometimes makes it all the way to June. A highlight is the spectacular peak-to-peak gondola connecting Whistler and Blackcomb with a length of nearly 2.8 miles and hovering 0.3 miles above ground.

Only one year ago Vail Resorts' Park City was announced largest ski resort in the USA

The past few years have been exciting for Vail Resorts. Two years ago, the company took over the ski resort Park City in Utah. Last year it connected the two ski resorts Park City and Canyons which made it the largest ski resort in the US.

Vail Resorts also owns the ski resorts Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado and Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood around the Lake Tahoe area in California. The ski resorts Afton Alps, Mt. Brighton and Perisher (in Australia) are also part of the ski resort company from Colorado.

Whistler Blackcomb will be part of the Epic Pass starting in winter season 2017/2018

The popular Epic Pass allows its owners to ski all ski resorts owned by Vail Resorts. Whistler will become part of the Epic Pass starting in the winter season of 2017/2018.

The Epic Pass is currently available for $809 and grants access to 13 ski resorts in North America.
