At the start of the winter season, the Tyrolean ski resort Kappl will unveil a new gondola lift. The aging Diasbahn will be replaced by a state-of-the-art 10-passenger gondola. Previously in use at the 2023 Federal Horticultural Show in Mannheim, the upgraded gondola offers greater comfort and efficiency while also standing for a sustainable use of resources. Here’s everything you need to know about the new lift in Kappl.
New 10-Person Gondola for More Efficiency and Comfort

Located in the Paznaun Valley in Tyrol, the family-friendly ski resort Kappl is receiving a key upgrade. Starting in the 2025/26 winter season, a modern 10-seater gondola lift will replace the previous Diasbahn – a 4-seater gondola from 1987. Built by the ropeway manufacturer Doppelmayr, the new lift will once again connect the base station in the village center (1,180 meters) with the mountain station at the Sunny Mountain Adventure Park (1,830 meters).
The 41 cabins carry guests uphill at a speed of five meters per second, reaching the top in approximately five and a half minutes. With a capacity of up to 2,400 people per hour, the new lift significantly boosts transport volume. The goal is to increase guest comfort and drastically reduce wait times, especially on busy days.

Innovation Meets Sustainability
Instead of constructing an entirely new system, Kappl Lift Company has opted for a resource-conscious solution. The gondola was originally built for the Federal Horticultural Show 2023 in Mannheim. After the event, the lift was carefully dismantled, inspected, and technically adapted for its alpine use in Tyrol.
By reusing the existing infrastructure, not only were valuable resources conserved, but energy and construction materials were also saved. With this move, the Kappl cableway company makes a clear statement in favor of more sustainable gondola development – all without compromising on comfort or quality.
Grand Opening in December 2025
The new Diasbahn will be officially celebrated at the start of the winter season. From December 11 to 14, 2025, an extensive opening weekend will take place at the base station. The program includes guided winter hikes, ski testing with expert advice, and exclusive ski guiding with the Kappl Aktiv ski school.
In the evening, the lift plaza will be transformed into a party zone: live music, DJs, and festive entertainment – including a performance by the band "Froschtaler" – will help christen the new gondola. Visitors will have the first opportunity to experience the new lift for themselves, and discounted ski passes will be available for the entire opening weekend.
Ski Resort Kappl: Sunny Slopes for Families and Leisure Skiers

The new gondola lift will take winter sports enthusiasts even more comfortably and efficiently from the heart of Kappl up to the mountain station at the Sunny Mountain Adventure Park – the main gateway to the ski area. Kappl is regarded as a family-friendly alternative to the larger resorts in the Paznaun Valley, though it also appeals to beginners and seasoned skiers alike.

With 42 kilometers of slopes and elevations up to 2,690 meters, Kappl offers diverse terrain – from wide family-friendly runs to more challenging red-marked slopes for advanced skiers. Kids will enjoy their own learning zone in the Sunny Mountain Adventure Park, while more ambitious athletes can test their skills on the permanent race track or freeride routes. Snowboarders and freestylers will find suitable challenges in the Alblitt Funpark.
Those looking for even more variety can take advantage of the Kappl & See ski connection to explore the neighboring See ski resort. And for the ultimate in skiing options, the Silvretta Ski Pass grants access to all resorts in the Paznaun Valley – including Ischgl and Galtür.
