From downhill classics to the World Ski Championships
Ten years after the cinema success “Streif – One Hell of a Ride” about the legendary Kitzbühel downhill race, director Gerald Salmina and screenwriter Tom Dauer return to the big screen. Their new film “Downhill Skiers – Ain’t No Mountain Steep Enough” showcases the world of the Alpine Ski World Cup in all its facets, from the nerve-racking start to the cheers at the finish line.
The documentary follows the great speed heroes of the World Cup, including Marco Odermatt, Dominik Paris, Cyprien Sarrazin, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, and Vincent Kriechmayr, over the course of an entire season. From the classic races in Bormio, Wengen, and Kitzbühel to the 2025 World Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
>> Profiles of the current World Cup athletes
Downhill Skiers shows how the athletes push themselves to their limits and beyond. How they cope with crashes, drive each other forward, and decide victory or defeat in just seconds. A run down the icy slope lasts only two minutes, yet it can change everything. It’s precisely this blend of risk, dedication, and humanity that makes the film so captivating.

More than just a sports film

"Downhill Skiers" is not a traditional race recap but a love letter to the king of skiing disciplines. The film tells stories of friendships, rivalries, and an unbridled love for the snow, in images that breathe, soar, and burn.
What drives people to hurl themselves down the world’s steepest slopes at 140 km/h year after year? Downhill Skiers delivers answers that go under your skin. The film takes a deep look into the psyche of the athletes, showing the tension at the start, the quiet moments after a crash, and the unbreakable will to keep going.
Cameras capture emotional conversations with coaches, physiotherapists, and families. Revealing tears, euphoria, and moments of absolute focus. This intimacy makes the film more than just a sports documentary; it becomes an honest portrait of a life between fear and fascination, between pain and passion.
