Two surprising winners at the Super G in Sestriere

Andrea Fischbacher from Austria and Fabienne Suter from Switzerland were the two surprising winners of the Super G race in Sestriere. Both of them came in with the same time and both celebrated their first victory of the World Cup. Third was Maria Riesch from Germany who was 0,24 seconds behind the two winners.

Strong Austrian team - Holaus crashed
Experienced Alexandra Meissnitzer from Austria was fourth and only 0,14 seconds behind the podium and just a bit ahead of Renate Goetschl, also from Austria. Another Austrian, Elisabeth Goergl, finished in sixth position and showed again a strong performance. The whole Austrian team was in shock though as their teammte Maria Holaus, the winner of Cortina d´Ampezzo, crashed and was flown to the nearby hospital.

Riesch close to win the globe
With her third place Germany´s Maria Riesch came closer to get the small Crystal ball in the super G World Cup as she now has 53 points more than her toughest opponent, Emily Brydon from Canada. With one race left in the super G, Riesch has a good chance of getting the globe at the end of the season.
