Ski Review 2018/19: Freeride Under 100 mm

You prefer the backcountry, but don't want to miss out on freshly groomed slopes either? These freeride models are just the skis for you then. They offer some boost on soft powder, and the necessary security in harder snow conditions. These diverse skis not only promise a unique backcountry experience where you feel like soaring, but also make for varied ski days all over the mountain.

Allrounders for All Snow Conditions

Enjoying long ski days is possible with these allrounders suitable for all snow conditions. They are appropriate for a broad target group, and offer fun under all conditions. The season 2018/19 models' medium width ranges from 88 to 100 mm. They've been tested on- and off-piste by our judges at Lech Zürs on Arlberg. The final result is the mean value of the results on the slopes and in the backcountry. Hence, you get a good overview of the skis' overall performance. The judges included ski stars such as Martin Ascherer, Huber Bernhard, and Petra Zeller.

Winner: K2 Pinnacle 95 Ti

K2's Pinnacle 95 Ti was convincing in all areas. It offers the perfect boost on soft snow as well as stability on the slope, hence it is a joy in all conditions. With a mean of 93.9 it receives an excellent ranking, and is our winner for the category Freeride Under 100.

Second: Völkl Mantra M5

Not only does it have a relatively long radius of 21.2 metres, Völkl Mantra M5 stands out with outstanding performance in all areas. Its great drivability, especially with long swings and high speeds, enthused our judges.

Third: Elan Ripstick 96

Pleasure and safety under all conditions are guaranteed when you ride on Elan's Ripstick 96. Short and long turns on the slope or in the backcountry are easily done without much effort. At an average of 88 points, this model makes third place in the "Freeride Under 100 mm" category, and receives the ranking "very good".
