Matt triumphs at slalom spectacle in Schladming

Austria´s Mario Matt has won the night slalom in Schladming in front of a great scenery. The Austrian clocked the minimum time of 1:42,84 minutes ahead of French Jean Baptiste Grange and Italy´s Manfred Moelgg.

Great atmosphere despite adverse conditions
Like ever before the interest of the audience was immense in Schladming. Thousands of fans celebrated the alpine stars and didn´t let the snowfall spoil the party. During the day it has rained in Schladming so after a few starters the piste became worse and worse. So starting off as first Manfred Moelgg could profit by his early bib and was the fastest in the first run. Only Mario Matt could get close to the minimum time of 50,21 seconds and rank ahead Jean Baptiste Grange on two.

Ligety with perfect second run
In the final for a long time Swiss Marc Berthod was the fastest until Ted Ligety stormed down the hill in a dreamlike manner and took over the clear lead. Afterwards the US-American gained position by position and was first pushed off the top place by Grange. Neither Neureuther nor Raich were able to undercut this time.

Matt storms to tenths World Cup victory
Grange was ahead in the final as third of the first run and expected Matt and Moelgg in the finish. Matt was up next and performed well in the upper part just like in the steeper lower section. So he clocked the new minimum time and put Moelgg under pressure. The Italian couldn´t stand the pressure, had a few problems but safed the third place in the finish. Matt instead became the lucky winner and celebrated his tenths World Cup win together with the fans in the finish area.
