Marlies Schild wins first slalom of the season

Marlies Schild from Austria started the slalom season in the same way she did last year: with a victory over the rest of the worlds best slalom racers. She beat out her teammate Nicole Hosp with Italy´s Chiara Costazza coming in third.

Costazza leading after the first run
Costazza was the surprise leader of the first run with Maria Pietilae-Holmner standing in second place before the final. Schild was only in third position but attacked in the final and won again a slalom. It was her 16th World Cup victory. In the end, USA’s Resi Stiegler was 4th and missed the podium by only 11/100 but finished ahead of Veronika Zuzulova (SVK) and Pietilae-Holmner. Slalom World Champion Sarka Zahrobska was 7th and Tanja Poutiainen came in 8th.

Hosp with the fastest second run
It was a difficult slalom on Saturday on the Reiteralm where heavy snowfall and strong winds made it a challenging task. But Schild stayed in control except a heavy mistake near the end to capture the win and overtaking the lead in the Overall World Cup. Her team rival Nicole Hosp had the fastest second run and moved to second place in the end. The defending Overall World Cup champion was happy with that result.
