Maria Riesch wins super combined event in Whistler

German Maria Riesch achieved one of her most important victories in the alpine World Cup this Sunday when she won the super combined event in Whistler. It was a great dress rehearsal for the Olympics 2010 for Riesch as the alpine races will be held at Whistler at the Winter Games 2010.

Schild with a great super G
Two days after crashing in the downhill and therefore losing many points the German fought back and beat Austria´s Marlies Schild who had a great super G run and finished after another great slalom run in second place. Anja Paerson came in third. Austria´s Nicole Hosp, another contender for the Overall World Cup title, came in fourth and scored valuable points. Behind Elisabeth Goergl, US-American Lindsey Vonn, the leader in the Overall World Cup, was sixth and defended her lead.

Vonn still leading the Overall World Cup
Riesch on the other hand celebrated her second triumph in the World Cup this season and took over the lead in the super combined ranking. Also the German might be again a contender for the Overall World Cup as she is only 122 points behind Vonn. Hosp is still second in this ranking.
