Marco Buechel wins Kitzbuehel opener

Marco Buechel from Liechtenstein celebrated a fantastic win in Kitzbühel where he stormed to the Super-G race victory surprisingly ahead of Austria´s Hermann Maier. Mario Scheiber (AUT) and Didier Cuche (SUI) shared place three clocking the same time.

Veterans on the podium
Starting off with bib eight Buechel profited by the good sight on the course during his run. So in 1:15,44 minutes he clocked a minimum time which couldn´t be beaten by anyone else anymore. Not only Buechel´s win was a surprise but also Hermann Maier´s second place. After a long period of not finishing on the rostrum Maier could celebrate his comeback on his "Streif". Beside Maier only Mario Scheiber and Benjamin Raich made it among the top ten. So despite the two Austrians on the podium the result was a bit disappointing for the Austrian skiers and the home audience.

Robbie Dixon surprises on place six
Canada’s John Kucera became fifth ahead of a strong Canadian Robbie Dixon who provided the spectators with the biggest surprise of the day. Although he started with the late bib 43 she managed the Streif excellently and stormed to pace six in the end. This was the first time the 23 years old gained World Cup points at all. On position seven Benjamin Raich showed his best performance in speed races since his podium finish and fifth place in the overseas races from 2007.
