First World Cup win for Maria Holaus

In the Super G at the Cortina weekend Maria Holaus stormed to the first World Cup victory of her career. The Austrian won ahead of US-American Julia Mancuso and her team mate Nicole Hosp who could enlarge the lead in the overall World Cup standings.

Best time with bib one
With bib one Holaus profited by the clean piste and set a minimum time in 1:24,63 minutes which was unreachable for all the other skiers after her. First Nicole Hosp clocked as second behind the 23-year-old Tyrolian with a deficit of 23 hundredths of a second. But her second place didn´t last long as US-American Julia Mancuso undercut this time by five hundredths of a second later.

Pursuers close together
From place two to six the women were very close together. Emily Brydon from Canada became forth in 1:24,92 minutes after her third place in downhill and so scored a further great result. Saturday’s downhill winner Lindsey Vonn finished fifth yet she missed a good opportunity to take over the lead in the Overall World Cup standings after her impressive demonstration from the previous day. A further hundredths behind Vonn Britt Janyk took over the sixth position.

No triumph for Goetschl
Once more the Super G wasn´t after Renate Goetschl´s fancy. After place five in downhill she only made it to position eight on Saturday. For the first time since the mid 1990s, Goetschl is on the verge of leaving the famous Italian resort without a podium finish.
