Finally the first win for Manfred Moelgg

Manfred Moelgg could finally celebrate his first World Cup win of his career. The Italian won the slalom in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia and beat Ivica Kostelic (CRO) by 0,41 seconds. Third in the end was the surprising Marcel Hirscher from Austria.

Hirscher a surprising third
Moelgg had several podium finishes this season but never won a race. This changed on Sunday when he was first after the first run and then defended his position in the afternoon. Hirscher was a two time junior World Champion a few weeks ago and confirmed his great potential by getting his first podium finish of the career.

Moelgg and Grange fight for slalom World Cup
The slalom king of the season, France’s Jean-Bapiste Grange, came in 4th and is still leading the slalom World Cup. He now is 21 points ahead of Manfred Moelgg. Mario Matt, only 12th today, is now third at 85 points. Benjamin Raich skied out in the first run and therefore has basically no chance to win the Overall World Cup. The Austrian is 264 points behind Bode Miller. Miller didn´t start in the slalom due to back problems.
