Didier Cuche tames the Streif

After he had become third in Super G on Friday Swiss Didier Cuche celebrated his most prestigious victory in Kitzbuehel where he dominated the demanding "Hahnenkamm" downhill without making any mistakes and stormed to his second win on the Streif piste after 1998.

Miller and Scheiber share second place
In 1:52,75 minutes he set the minimum time of the day which couldn´t even be undercut by favorit Bode Miller and Austrian Mario Scheiber who both became second with a deficit of 27 hundredths of a second. Michael Walchhofer, the winner in Kitbuehel two years ago came in forth ahead of an outstanding Hermann Maier who was the fastest man of the day but lost most of his time in the lower section of the course.

Macartney suffers bad crash
Unfortunately the race was overshadowed by Scott Macartney´s bad crash. On his 30th birthday the US-American couldn´t hold off his jump in the finish area and fell on the icy piste by a speed of 120 kilometres per hour. Touching the ground he lost his helmet and slipped into the finish motionlessly. After a 15 minutes treatment in front of all the spectators in the finish he was brought into hospital and kept in artificial coma because of a craniocerebral injury. Blessedly in the same evening he woke up again and feels better according to the circumstances.
