Backstreet Boys to Kick Off Winter Season in Schladming

Schladming is gearing up for a spectacular start to the 2025 winter season with a concert highlight like no other: On December 6 and 7, the legendary Backstreet Boys will take the stage at the Planai Stadium for their only European shows. This event is set to thrill both music lovers and winter sports enthusiasts. If you want to be there, you'd better act fast.

From Las Vegas to the Austrian Alps

Over the past years, the Schladming Ski Opening has become one of the top winter season kick-off events. After hosting international stars like Robbie Williams, Bryan Adams, and Simply Red, promoter Klaus Leutgeb is now bringing the Backstreet Boys to Styria, in cooperation with the Schladming 4-Mountain Ski Area and the Schladming-Dachstein tourism region.

"Schladming is turning into a pop stage with international appeal — this will be a night to remember," says Leutgeb. The concerts will start at 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

For European fans, this is the only chance to see the band live outside the U.S. in 2025. Parallel to their spectacular "The Sphere" show in Las Vegas, they'll premiere their "Millennium 2.0" show in Schladming, flying in exclusively for these open-air performances.

The Backstreet Boys shared their excitement in a video message: "We are so excited, because we are going to be coming to your beautiful city of Schladming and performing at the Ski-Opening. See you guys there!"

Once again, the Ski Opening is a collaborative project between the Leutgeb Entertainment Group, the Schladming-Dachstein tourism board, and the cable cars of the 4-Mountain Ski Area (Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen, and Reiteralm). They're all eagerly anticipating the start of the season and aim to strengthen the region's reputation as a premier winter destination.

"Combined with the region's stunning winter scenery, we’re creating an experience that will captivate both music fans and winter sports lovers," says Georg Bliem of Planai-Hochwurzen cable cars. Styrian governor Mario Kunasek adds: "When international music legends like the Backstreet Boys perform in Schladming, it’s a clear sign of the region’s growing appeal beyond Austria’s borders."

Andreas Keinprecht, head of the Schladming-Dachstein tourism region, sees the event as part of a bigger picture: "When guests travel from all over Europe to start the season with global stars, we’re not just setting the tone musically — we’re leading the way in terms of quality, hospitality, and experience."

Tickets and Packages: Don’t Wait Too Long

Ticket sales for the Backstreet Boys concerts began on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, via oeticket.com. Prices start at €109.99. The tourism board is also offering a special Ski Opening Package starting at €470, which includes three nights’ accommodation, a two-day Ski amadé pass, and a concert ticket.

Winter sports enthusiasts can look forward to some exciting upgrades in the Schladming-Dachstein region in the 2025/26 season. Three new cable cars will make skiing more convenient and enjoyable.

The link between Hauser Kaibling and Planai is being significantly enhanced: a state-of-the-art 10-passenger gondola will replace the old Senderbahn at Hauser Kaibling, while a new 8-seater chairlift, "Mitterhausalm I," will replace the older Sonneck lift on Planai, improving comfort.

On Reiteralm, the second major ski mountain in the Fageralm area, significant investment is also underway: a new 8-passenger gondola will replace two older double chairlifts, elevating the skiing experience for families and pleasure skiers.
