South Tyrol's glaciers form a fascinating natural area. At the border between Austria and Italy, the Hochjochferner rises at the end of the Val Senales with an area of 185 hectares. Here, winter sports enthusiasts romp around in the eternal ice from September to May. Beginners, experts and families are equally enthusiastic about skiing on the glacier. The eight-kilometre "Schmuggler" run down into the valley is an absolute highlight.
