The Skiing Region of France

The river Rhône and the mountains of the Alps is what gave the region in the southeast of France its name. Above everything rises the Mont Blanc – with a height of 4,819 meters (15810 ft) it is the highest mountain in France and the highest of the Alps. Rhône-Alps is the most popular winter vacation destination of France. World famous ski resorts in the Départements Savoie(Savoy) and Haute-Savoie(Upper Savoy) attract winter sport enthusiasts from all over.

Hundreds of kilometers of trails is what awaits skiers and snowboarders alone in Les 3 Vallées including the regions of Méribel and Val Thorens. Another great place for enjoying winter sport is in Portes du Soleil including the regions of Morzine or Avoriaz. In Les Sybelles you will find the “six belles” (translated: six beauties), meaning you have six exquisite skiing resorts at your disposal. And these are just a fair few of all the gigantic ski resorts that France has to offer. All the experts and gold medalists have already discovered the stunning region of Rhône-Alps for themselves. The Winter Olympic Games took place here three times already: 1924 in Chamonix, 1968 in Grenoble and finally 1992 in Albertville.

Not only skiing is what makes the region special. Rhône-Alpes has an excellent culinary experience for you to discover. Wine, cheese, apricots, walnuts – the list of local creations and specialties is long. Rhône-Alpes has a huge amount of top-quality restaurants – the region is outbid only by Paris. You can reach the region over the international airports of Geneva and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry.
