Silvretta Montafon Invests in New Valisera Cable Car and Silvretta Park

Despite the difficult 2020/2021 season, the Silvretta Montafon ski area is optimistic about the next winter and is investing in a new lift project. The Valisera cable car in St. Gallenkirch will be replaced by a modern 10-seater gondola lift. In the course of the renovation, the new Silvretta Park with an underground car park, sports shop, hotel and restaurant is also being built at the base station. The new lift is scheduled to open in December 2021.

In the Vorarlberg ski resort of Silvretta Montafon, winter sports enthusiasts can look forward to a new addition in the coming 2021/2022 season. On the last weekend in February, the old Valisera cable car in St. Gallenkirch made its last rounds after 40 years and went into its well-deserved retirement. It is now being replaced by a modern gondola lift from Austrian ropeway manufacturer Doppelmayr.

Instead of 6 passengers as before, the spacious cabins of the new Valisera gondola can accommodate 10 passengers. The larger gondolas and the speed of 6 meters per second increase transport capacity at an important hub in the ski region, as the Valisera lift is the link between Hochjoch and Nova.

The new cabins in the Doppelmayr D-Line not only feature individual seats with seat heating for greater comfort, but also an indoor ski holder. From now on, skis will no longer have to be inserted into holders on the outside of the doors when boarding the gondola, but can be conveniently secured inside the cabin in recesses in the floor using the twist-in system. In addition, the gondolas are designed to be barrier-free.

The new Valisera cable car follows the same route as its predecessor. The locations of the base, middle and top stations also remain the same. However, the station buildings are being rebuilt. A lot is happening at the base station in particular. The Silvretta Park is being built here.

The new area includes an Intersport shop with ski depot, mountain lift ticket offices and pick-up stations, a Kästle Test & Buy Center and an underground car park, which is set to become the largest e-charging garage in Vorarlberg. The access to the lift is designed barrier-free with escalators. Another highlight will be the large gastronomy area in the style of a market hall. In addition, a new Revier Hotel with a public restaurant and bar is being built.

Construction of the new Valisera lift and Silvretta Park is scheduled for completion by the next winter season. The opening is planned for December 2021.
