Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: Plansegg Lift Getting a Modern 8-Seater Upgrade

The Tyrolean ski resort of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is gearing up for winter 2026/27 with one of the biggest single investments in its history: the trusty old Plansegg lift, which has been running since 1997, is getting replaced by a brand-new 8-seater chairlift from Leitner. Seilbahn Komperdell GmbH is dropping around 30 million euros on the upgrade, and for good reason. On peak days, up to 17,000 guests use this busy lift, making it one of the most heavily trafficked in the entire resort.

A full-on upgrade across the board

The new lift at Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is seriously impressive: heated seats, weather protection hoods with an automatic closing mechanism, and a child-safe safety bar all add up to a noticeably more comfortable ride. On the technical side, the numbers speak for themselves, capacity jumps from 3,000 to 4,000 people per hour, top speed increases to 6 m/s, and ride time drops to under five minutes. A total of 91 chairs will be in operation.

Want a sneak peek before it opens? A sample chair is already on display at the Komperdell valley station. Also worth noting is how the top station is being run: it's monitored autonomously via automated systems, though a staff member is still on-site to keep quality standards high. The lift is set to open in December 2026, right in time for the start of the new winter season.

After a few runs, there'll be a great new spot to recharge: a brand-new panorama bar is being built on the roof of the chairlift station at the Plansegg valley station. Think umbrella bar vibes, but with proper comfort.

Part of it is covered, with a retractable roof for sunny days. Inside there's seating for around 90 people, with another 150 spots on the sun terrace, plus spacious restrooms. A perfect pit stop between runs, with predictably stunning views of the resort.

Plenty happening in summer too

For summer 2026, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is rolling out a whole range of new attractions, from new biking options and family-friendly themed trails to new play areas for the little ones.

New Bike Beginner Park at Komperdell valley station

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis already has over 200 km of bike trails across all skill levels. Come summer, a second beginner park opens at the Komperdell valley station: complete with a conveyor belt lift, three trails, and pump tracks designed to give beginners, kids and adults alike, the perfect intro to trail biking. There's also a bike shop and rental right on site.

Georama Loop Trail Lazid — marble runs with a mountain view

The new Georama Loop Trail Lazid in Serfaus is a 1.5 km family-friendly themed walk that's also stroller-accessible. It starts at Restaurant Lassida, where you pick up the stone balls for the marble runs dotted along the route. Along the way, there are interactive stations, fascinating insights into Alpine geology, and some seriously impressive panoramic views. The trail leads up to the Lawens lift top station and back, with a giant globe installation waiting at the end as the grand finale. Perfect for families, nature lovers, and anyone who likes to mix learning with fun.

Berta's Castle Playground

Ladis is getting a brand-new adventure playground: Berta's Burgspielplatz invites little knights and castle folk to run wild. Two connected castle towers come with slides, swings, climbing features, and a suspension bridge for plenty of variety. For the very youngest, there's a charming little play kitchen and a dedicated "squire's hut" with its own mini slide.

More new stuff in summer 2026

Also new near the Sonnenbahn valley station in Ladis: a pump track with two differently designed routes where kids can work on their riding skills and have their first real biking adventures. Over at Skidepot Fiss, the children's play area is being revamped and expanded, the highlight being a new iWall that blends physical activity with interactive digital play. And for those after a memorable shot: from summer 2026, a new heart-shaped photo point on the Wonnealm will give you the perfect setup for capturing that mountain backdrop moment.

Stretching from Ladis at around 1,200 meters up to the Masnerkopf at 2,828 meters, this is one of Austria's largest and most versatile ski resorts, 214 kilometers of slopes and 68 lifts. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis has established itself as arguably the best family ski resort out there, while still delivering for racers, freeriders, freestylers, and après-ski fans alike. Alongside wide, easygoing runs for beginners and families, the resort also offers challenging black runs like the Lazid-Nord descent, seven fun parks for freestylers, and top-notch freeride terrain.

One standout feature is the car-free village of Serfaus and its legendary Dorfbahn, an underground air-cushion metro that whisks guests from the village entrance to the lift base for free. Thanks to its high altitude and extensive snowmaking infrastructure, the resort is considered exceptionally snow-reliable.
