Völkl Blaze 106 (Powder Ski 2023/2024)

Product Summary

Skilled skiers will enjoy both relaxed cruising and pushing the ski to its limit. The Blaze 106 is a pure freeride ski. Riding on groomers is no problem but due to its fairly wide waist the ski has a strong bias towards powder runs. Available lengths for the ski are ranging between 165 and 186cm. The ski is very agile and performs well in all sizes of turn radius - both long and short. The radius ranges from 14 m to 19 m (depending on the length of the ski).

The ski in details

The widest Blaze, each model having 106 mm under the boot: in four lengths for the ultimate freeriding experience.

The Blaze series adds a new dimension for intuitive freeriders who like performance but appreciate a playful, agile feel as well. As the widest model in the line, the Blaze 106 weighs 1,828 g (@ 186 cm) and delivers fantastic flotation, even in soft snow.

A 0.3 mm thick Titanal binding platform provides direct power transfer and builds pressure quickly for a fast response when switching edges. The ski’s faster, more direct response is especially welcome in narrow and rough terrain – and takes less effort too. The secret largely lies in the 3D radius sidecut. The Blaze is designed primarily for short, fast turns, but its three different radii and tip-to-tail hybrid multi-layer wood core adapt to any riding style, however ambitious.

Another notable feature is the new suspension tip, which makes its debut in the Blaze series. An elasticated, rubbery material on the tip and tail acts like a bumper, especially in wind-blown and tracked conditions, making the ski more settled and providing fantastic flotation.

The Blaze is popular for freeride touring too, thanks to its light weight. That’s why Völkl also offers Smart Glue skins tailored to each Blaze model.

Technologies

3D Radius Sidecut: Three radii in one ski for maximum turning & speed versatility in all mountain skiing

Full Sidewall: Direct and strong powertransmission with full length sidewalls.

Titanal Binding Platform: A thin Titanal layer (0,3 mm) under the binding delivers the necessary strength to the ski. This way the binding screws offer reliable hold even in the toughest conditions.

Suspension Tips & Tails: Inserts made of elastic TPU material on the edges of the tip and tail which act like a bumper in wind-blown or tracked snow. Its shock-absorbing elasticity ensures better stability and catch-free float.

Tip & Tail Rocker: Bends up only in the shovel and tail zones, with a camber shape in the middle

Ski review Völkl Blaze 106

At the 2023/2024 WorldSkitest the skis were closely evaluated in the category „Freeride II“. Tester opinion: "In a strong competition, the "Blaze 106" secured the much-coveted 3rd place on the podium. A freerider without weaknesses that is ideally suited for long, varied ski days in the backcountry. The wide shovel of the "Völkl" helps to keep the effort required for long turns extremely low. As a well-known car manufacturer would say: "It keeps the track"."
