The Roof of Tyrol

The Pitztal Valley runs nearly parallel to the Ötztal Valley and is located in the district of Imst. In the east, the 3.768 meter (12362 ft) high mountain Wildspitze forms the border. The so called wild summit is the highest mountain in Tyrol. Two ski regions can be discovered here. The Pitztal Glacier and the area of Rifflsee offer all together 40 piste kilometers (25 mi). Broad slopes perfect for carving and many family-friendly pistes can be found here. There is also a great amount of powder snow for the fans of back-country skiing. Another highlight would be the Café 3440 at the summit Brunnenkogel. This is the highest café in all of Austria at an elevation of 3.440 meters (11286 ft). At the peak Hochzeiger, families with children feel especially at home. Children under 11 years of age can ski for free. There are not only wonderful pistes to discover but the little ones can already practice tricks in the terrain park.

Starting in Garmisch-Partenkirchen driving the mountain pass in the Tyrolean Alps you can reach Pitztal without paying toll. An alternative would be taking the Inntalautobahn (highway) A12 and exiting at Imst/Pitztal.
