Val d`Isère - more than just ski fun for families!

Val d’Isère is a great family vacation destination. There is an abundance of leisure activities for young and old. Apart from the 200 (!!!!) groomed trails there is also an indoor swimming pool, a sports center and even a cinema. But keep in mind that a family vacation in Val d’Isère is quite a strain on the wallet, therefore the free exercise lifts at the bases are a very considerate family feature in Val d’Isère. Thus only the family members who can really tap the whole potential of the ski resort need to pay for lift tickets. Unfortunately we did not “ski across” a typical kids-park with fairy tale figures, ski merry-go-round or magic carpet. (Unlike Tignes where such children features are offered). Never the less Val d’Isère offers two “Snow-Kindergardens” who take good care of the young ones while parents and older siblings go exploring the ski resort. For families who ski together we recommend the upper parts of the resort. Especially the terrain at the Col de Fresse and the glacier descents right below the 3488m high Pte du Montet are broad and recommendable also for small kids. However we recommend families to take the gondola back down to the valley as most descents leading to the bases are steep and for small children simply too demanding.
