Suior Ski Resort

Șuior Resort sits on the northern slopes of the Mogoșa massif in the Maramureș region of northwestern Romania, roughly 18 kilometres from Baia Mare. The ski area is split across two levels: the base station in the forest and "Elevation 1000" at around 1,000 metres, which houses its own beginner area and amusement park. Eight runs offer a varied piste selection — from the 150-metre beginner slope and medium-difficulty main runs to the demanding Moski and Mogoșa descents. The Mogoșa run, at 2,200 metres the longest in the resort, leads through challenging terrain. A chairlift connects the base station with the upper area.

Beyond the slopes, what makes this resort truly special is its setting: Maramureș is regarded as one of the most unspoilt regions in Europe, with UNESCO-listed wooden churches, traditional villages and a hospitality that is increasingly hard to find.

Snowmaking covers the entire 3,600 metres of piste, ensuring a reliable season even when natural snowfall is scarce.

The dining offering is unusually broad for a resort of this size. At the base station, you find a restaurant, an underground restaurant and an outdoor terrace. At Elevation 1000, a further restaurant, a terrace bar with panoramic views and the après-ski bar await — with an open outdoor terrace in winter. The kitchens serve hearty regional Maramureș specialities. At the base station, a trout farm supplies the restaurants directly.

Floodlit evening skiing is available on the Șuior 1 run, with roughly 1,500 illuminated metres.

At the Elevation 1000 amusement park, a 150-metre straight tubing track, a 120-metre winding tubing track and a trampoline with BigAirBag landing await. An outdoor wooden hot tub at Elevation 1000 invites relaxation after the ski day. Those looking to explore the region beyond the slopes will find some of Europe's best-preserved traditional villages, UNESCO-listed wooden churches and the famous Merry Cemetery of Săpânța in the Maramureș.

The après-ski bar at Elevation 1000 is the meeting point after skiing — with drinks, music and views over the snowy mountains of the Maramureș.

The resort's rental centre holds around 250 complete ski and snowboard sets. Ski instructors are present on the slopes; for beginners, Elevation 1000 has a dedicated 130-metre slope with a modern conveyor belt. Accommodation is available at the base station hotel and in holiday cabins at Elevation 1000. Conference rooms are provided at both locations. The chairlift operates daily from 10:00 to 20:00, with departures on the hour.
