Ski Resort Sogn Skisenter in Sogn og Fjordane: Position on map

The Ski Resort

Sogn Skisenter — affectionately known as "Heggis" by the locals — sits at Hafslo in the municipality of Luster, barely fifteen minutes from the Sognefjord town of Sogndal. The resort is run entirely by volunteers: over 2,000 hours of unpaid work go into grooming, lift operations and the legendary warming hut every season. What the resort lacks in size, it more than makes up for in character and terrain. The main lift is one of the longest button lifts in Norway and, combined with the "Sognaheisen" top lift opened in 2015, carries you to around 1,000 metres. From there, up to 700 vertical metres of untouched powder await — through terrain that ranges from seriously steep to comfortably mellow.

The Norwegian freeride magazine FriFlyt concluded after a visit that Sogn Skisenter may well offer the best lift-based freeride in the country. At weekends, the resort runs a "Powder Taxi" from Hafslo, collecting freeriders and driving them back — making it possible to lap the endless off-piste slopes several times a day.
