Sauda Ski Resort

Sauda Skisenter sits in the Svandalen valley, roughly eight kilometres above the fjord town of Sauda in the Ryfylke region of southwestern Norway. It is one of the largest ski resorts in the province of Rogaland and renowned for its reliable snow conditions, which allow a season stretching from January well into May. Five surface lifts and two conveyor belts serve a varied piste network with runs for all ability levels. The longest descent is an impressive six kilometres with a vertical drop of 500 metres — a figure rarely matched in this part of the country. Beyond the alpine slopes, groomed touring and cross-country trails lead into the high plateau, and the off-piste terrain is popular with freeriders and splitboarders.

Families are well catered for: a dedicated family lift, a snowboard park and a children's area with conveyor-belt lifts invite a relaxed start. Since its founding in 1968 with a single surface lift, the ski centre has grown into a comprehensive family resort.

The ski centre houses a café serving hot meals and an unusual attraction: a ski exhibition with around 600 pairs of historic and modern skis. For winding down after the ski day, the Paraplybaren — the resort's own après-ski bar — awaits.

The Paraplybaren (Umbrella Bar) at the ski centre is the place to meet after the last run. Drinks and music round off the day on the slopes.

The ski rental includes its own ski workshop and a small mountain sports shop. Ski instruction can be booked online. A unique offering is the Skibåt: at weekends, a ferry shuttle operated by the Rødne shipping company runs from Stavanger directly to Sauda — a fjord cruise and ski resort combined in a single day trip. A bus service from Haugesund is also available.
