Ski Resort Lemonsjoen Jotunheimen in Oppland: Position on map

Lemonsjoen Jotunheimen Ski Resort

Trail Map Lemonsjoen Jotunheimen

The Ski Resort

Lemonsjøen Alpinsenter lies in the municipality of Vågå on the national road, right at the gateway to Jotunheimen National Park — the "Home of the Giants", where northern Europe's highest peaks, Galdhøpiggen and Glittertind, tower above the landscape. Three surface lifts carry you up to 1,250 metres, from where five groomed runs descend through open high mountain terrain and sparse birch forest back to the base. What has made this small resort famous beyond the region, however, is its freeride terrain: the slopes above and below the treeline deliver powder descents with panoramic views of Jotunheimen, Rondane and Dovrefjell. It is no coincidence that Lemonsjøen is home to the Trollhø Høkkers freeride club, which regularly produces world-class riders. The annual Vågå Freeride Invitationals draw crowds of spectators. Official alpine skiing championships have also been held here. A terrain park with jumps and rails and a dedicated children's slope with a separate 150-metre lift round out the offering.

Interesting facts

  • Elevated between 840 m and 1,200 m, the Ski Resort is among the 15 highest elevated Ski Resorts in Norway. The vertical drop from summit to base is 360 m. The average difference in altitude between base and summit of Ski Resorts in Norway is 424 m.

On Mountain Dining

At the base station, a cosy ski café serves waffles, cinnamon buns, pizza and sausages. Just steps away stands Kalven Seter, home to Norway's only barista shop on a mountain farm — smoothies and coffee amid the peaks. For evenings, the nearby Lemonsjø Fjellstue is known for its hearty dinners and homemade desserts. The renowned Brimi Fjellstugu is also only a few minutes' drive away.

Activities

Around Lemonsjøen, over 150 kilometres of groomed cross-country trails stretch deep into the heart of Jotunheimen. The Jotunheimen trail connects Brimiland in the east via Lemonsjøen and Randsverk with Hindseter, Bessheim and Gjende in the west. From the top lift, the Trollhøe viewpoint can be reached — with panoramic views across five national parks. Dog sledding, snowshoe hikes and ice curling are also part of the winter programme. And those with a keen eye may spot the Vågå Tamreinlag reindeer herd or a passing moose on the slopes.
