Harpefossen Ski Resort

Harpefossen Skisenter lies in the Hjelmelandsdalen valley in the municipality of Stad, roughly ten kilometres from the town centre of Nordfjordeid — in the heart of the Nordfjord region on Norway's northwestern coast.

It is the largest ski resort in the area and renowned well beyond the fjord for its freeride terrain: the geographical position between the coast and the high mountains delivers a steady supply of powder snow, transforming the expansive slopes off-piste into a paradise for deep-snow enthusiasts. On the groomed side, 13 runs of all difficulty levels stretch from the base at 250 metres up to roughly 825 metres. The 575-metre vertical drop is among the greatest in the region.

The resort sits along the historic postal route between Nordfjord and Sunnmøre and is part of the Alpepass network, granting access to nine ski resorts in the area with a single ski pass.

Both the alpine slopes and the cross-country trails are equipped with floodlights, offering evening skiing — a welcome addition during the dark Norwegian winter months.

The trail network encompasses 15 kilometres of groomed cross-country tracks leading through five idyllic mountain-farm settlements. A dedicated biathlon facility is connected to the trail system. In summer, over 100 kilometres of marked hiking trails open up the surrounding mountain landscape.

Ski rental with its own workshop, a ski school and a café serving hot and cold food are located directly at the ski centre. Accommodation is available in holiday cabins and apartments right at the resort. The Haugen Alpin club section offers alpine ski training for all ages and ability levels — Harpefossen has previously hosted the Norwegian Alpine Championships.
