Ski Resort Gautefall in Telemark: Position on map

Gautefall Ski Resort

Trail Map Gautefall

The Ski Resort

Gautefall Skisenter sits on the Gautefallheia plateau in the municipality of Drangedal in Telemark — on a highland between 500 and 700 metres, surrounded by heather moorland, forests and lakes. It is one of the largest alpine centres in Telemark and has grown from a hidden gem since its founding in 1976 into a fully equipped family and freestyle resort. The detachable six-seater chairlift Gautefall Express forms the backbone of the resort, carrying skiers to the top station in minutes. Five surface lifts and a conveyor belt in the children's area ensure short waiting times even on busy days.

The terrain park ranks among the best in Norway: quarterpipes, big jumps, a halfpipe and numerous rails provide a playground for freestylers of all levels, regularly hosting events and competitions. Sixty snow cannons cover roughly five kilometres of piste with machine-made snow — keeping the skiing going even in lean snow years.

Snow Safety & Snowmaking

The 60 snow cannons can cover around five of the resort's roughly ten kilometres of piste, ensuring a reliable season from December. The artificial pond Nedre Langmyrtjenn was purpose-built to supply water for snowmaking.

On Mountain Dining

Three dining options keep you fuelled at the ski centre. The Rytterspranget Kafé serves simple, hot food right on the slopes. The Senterkafé at the base is the informal meeting point for families. For a more refined experience, the Ski Lodge Restaurant offers evening dining with table reservations.

Nightskiing

Three pistes are equipped with floodlights, offering night skiing — one of Gautefall's hallmarks, drawing guests from across the region evening after evening.

Activities

Around 100 kilometres of marked and illuminated cross-country trails lead from the ski area through the highland landscape. Beginners take the western route to Langmyr; more experienced skiers follow the northern route via Himmelrike and the Fisketjonn and Rosstjonn lakes — a roughly 15-kilometre loop through quiet, largely untouched scenery. Unique for a resort of this size is the in-house biathlon facility with 31 shooting targets and a 4.3-kilometre course.

Après-Ski and Nightlife

At Bjørnehiet og BånnSki, the ski day extends into the evening — with drinks, live music and regular events and concerts. During Easter and the winter holidays, the après-ski programme ramps up considerably.

Infrastructure & Rental

Ski rental, a ski workshop, a ski shop and a ski school — the latter with multilingual instructors — are all located directly at the ski centre. A fitness studio is available year-round. Accommodation is offered in modern Ski Lodge Fjellsuites and Club Gautefall Apartments, all within steps of the slopes. At the base of the pistes stands the Gautefall Fjellkyrkje, a mountain church built in 1997 that lends the place its distinctive charm.
