The Ski Resort
Abtenau in Lammertal valley is only about 50 km away from Salzburg and offers a wide range of winter sports. Here you can still enjoy skiing to the full, because in Abtenau it is much quieter than in the big ski centres. If, in addition to skiing, you would also like to enjoy the winter off-piste with relaxing winter walks or horse-drawn sleigh rides, then the Lammertal valley is the right place for you.
The snow-sure ski area around the local mountain Karkogel offers slopes of all levels of difficulty for beginners, pleasure skiers, freestylers or professionals. Furthermore, the Abtenauer Bergbahnen are constantly coming up with innovations, such as a combined lift with 6-seater chairs and 8-seater cable car. Nine trails for all levels of difficulty await you on the Karkogel. About half of these are in the blue category, which makes Abtenau a popular holiday destination for families. In addition, the red marked "professional slope" provides pure pleasure. There is even more action on the black marked FIS downhill and the professional race track.
A practice area with the lower Sonnleiten lifts I and II as well as the upper Sonnleiten lift is separated from the rest of the ski area in the north-east of Abtenau. Here beginners can practice in peace and quiet on the rather flat slopes.
