The Cross-Country Area
Cross country is healthy and totally ´in´. More and more health conscious people are choosing cross country over alpine skiing. 90% of all muscles are activated when ´langlaufing´ and there is no pressure on your joints. The Wildschönau offers ideal conditions for this new trend with 50 km of cross country tracks. Cross Country Tracks: Niederau-Penning-Oberau: 20km. Roggenboden:5km. Auffach-Mühltal-Bernau: 12km. At the end of the Valley at a height of 1100 m is the challenging Schönangeralm track: 7km There are also 6km of practice tracks. The use of the cross country track is free of charge in the Wildschönau! A trail map and winter walking map is available in the Tourist Office. - The highest point of the track is 1,170 m above sea level.
- Average snow depth during the season is 101 cm at summit elevation and 40 cm at base elevation. Snow coverage is usually best during April, offering an average snow depth of 130 cm at summit elevation and 50 cm at the base.
- Wildschönau features 45 sunny days on average per season. The average for all cross-Country Skiing Areas in Austria is 37 sunny days. January is the sunniest month with an average of 15 sunny days. This makes the cross-Country skiing area one of the 5 sunniest in Tyrol.
