The Cross-Country Area
Nordic sports are becoming more and more popular with winter sports lovers, either so compensate for a sedentary lifestyle or simply as recreation in the fresh winter air. 40 km of cross-country trails, 49 km winter footpaths and marked snowshoe tracks are at the disposal of cross-country skiers, snowshoe walkers, Nordic walkers and hikers. In various courses beginners and intermediates can learn or practise the different kinds of sports. Engelberg Valley trails Network of trails in the Engelberg valley with a variety of different routes; the short sharp ascent to Herrenrüti is rewarded by a wonderful view of the village. The 25 km long network caters to the classic cross-country skier as well as to the skater; there are wide, fast sectors for skating, but also sections demanding technique and condition. Cross-country course: Trübsee The 0 km long course stretches over the whole area from Gerschnialp to Untertrübsee, and is also suitable for the more laidback skier. This interesting course offers some short steep ascents, and some longer ones, as well as lovely sections through the deep snow of the Gerschni forest. Cross-country course: Trübsee This pretty course at Trübsee naturally follows the uneven terrain. A unique view of glacial and mountain surroundings can be admired along the 4 km long course. Thanks to its elevated position the course is open until spring. Dogs permitted. Floodlight tracks Sporting Park The extended World-Cup route (approx. 1,5 km) near the Sporting Park is floodlight Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting mid-November (weather permitting). Upon request at the Sporting Park Engelberg, the course is available on other evenings for groups.
