Skiing Fun Between Eucalyptus Trees

When Europe is slowly putting away the ski equipment the ski resorts in Australia are getting ready to start another winter season. The ultimate skiing experience in the Australian Alps is what awaits 'down under'.

In the southeast of Australia you will find the highest mountains on Australian mainland. The highest state in Australia is New South Wales with Mt Kosciuszko (2.228 m/7.309 ft). Skiers and Snowboarders can get really close to the mountain when skiing in Thredbo which is just six kilometers (3.7 mi) away from the summit. Because of a difference in altitude of almost 672 meters (2204.7 ft) it is known to be one of the hardest skiing regions of the country. A difference in altitude like that is very uncommon for Australia which makes it a very special place to visit when 'down under'. The largest ski resort is Perisher which has over 100 slopes split up into four areas called Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Blue Cow and Guthega.

In the neighboring state of Victoria you will find many other ski resorts, for example Falls Creek with four fun parks. Another region would be Mt Buller with 80 piste kilometers and lots of diversity. Last but not least the picturesque Mt Hotham with slopes as high as 1.845 meters (6053.2 ft) above sea level. Skiing and snowboarding is also possible on the coast of Australia. On Tasmania winter sport enthusiasts can discover the small but exciting skiing regions Ben Lomond and Mr Mawson.

Now, who doesn't want to ski on the other side of the globe? Your best bet is to fly to either Sydney or Melbourne. You can get your own rental car and continue your way to the resorts. If not, there are numerous bus lines leaving from city centers to the skiing areas.
