Mayrhofen – A Ski Resort for Advanced Skiers

The large Mayrhofen ski area is a brilliant, sporty ski resort for intermediate skiers and snowboarders alike. Skiing here takes place on two separate mountains, Ahorn and Penken, the larger of which is reached by the impressive Penken cable car, as well as Penken’s neighboring mountains Rastkogel and Eggalm. There are plenty of runs to check out for advanced skiers, which make for a great variety even during multi-day trips. Two thirds of its slopes are designated reds and blacks, among them also the infamous Harakiri run: Having a gradient of 78%, it is the steepest groomer in Austria. The wide range of choices as to where and what to ski next is definitely worth our Advanced Skiers Award!

Novices will have a wonderful time in Mayrhofen, yet, despite the excellence of its ski schools and learner area, the resort cannot be said to be ideal for beginners. Newbies have to ride up the mountain Ahorn to reach easy blues or take the Larchwald lift which serves further blues that are perfect for learners. Close to Horbergbahn lift, there is also a kids zone. Nevertheless, it seems obvious that there are other ski resorts providing better options for families and inexperienced skiers.

Regarding some freestyle fun, the fun slope at Ahorn as well as the Vans Penken Park, which is ranked among Austria’s most highly rated terrain parks and divided into seven areas, are your go-to addresses. However, Mayrhofen offers neat features for a unique skiing experience, such as a modern lift system, free WiFi, and the so-called Infoscouts, which provide help in situations of any kind. It is one of the most popular resorts in the Alps for a reason and definitely possesses that special chameleon quality, as it will be whatever you want it to be.

    Terrible
Unclear, poorly signposted, many idiots and non-professionals on the slope, you had to be afraid that you will be hit by them. Just terrible. Fortunately I have survived the ski site

Top ski resort, perfectly groomed slopes
The only drawback is the slope Harakiri, because more advertising is made around the slope than you actually gives. I find the slope can be quite brisk even in the (squat) driven down!!!

Large ski area with some weaknesses
Skiing in the Penken-Horberg-Rastkogel-Eggalm area is worthwhile in any case. However, there are some weaknesses that must be taken into account in advance.Irrespective of the Größße and the va... Read complete review
