Great Freeride Options

Say “Lake Louise“ and you probably think of FIS Alpine Skiing. The fact that Lake Louise is predominantly associated with the World Cup is a real bummer. However, when there are inches of dry champagne powder, there is no better place for some neat back bowl and backcountry sessions than Lake Louise. We recommend to leave as early as possible to be one of the first to speed down the untouched slopes.

If you're into back bowl skiing, there are two ways to get there: Top of the World Express and Summit Platter. Once you've made it up the mountain, there are countless single and double diamond runs at your disposal – all ungroomed with tons of powder. At the top, there are open snowfields with great snow-cover; so, if you feel as if you had enough energy to hike up, you should check these out. Another nice part to explore is the Larch area that features steep double-diamonds in the trees or just ski directly under the Ptarmigan lift, where challenging runs meet fresh powder.

So, the bottom line is that there is something for everyone at Lake Louise, whether it's about back bowls or backcountry skiing. Congrats, Lake Louise, you are officially awarded in the “Freeride“ category!
