Ski amadé 3.0 WLAN on the pistes and a cool new application for your mobile

Which piste goes straight to this nice ski hut? Which run best suits my style? And where can one get the best photo and post it straightaway on Facebook? In Ski amadé all these questions are answered really quickly and individually from the 2011/12 season onwards. Because the Skiverbund is introducing WLAN to the pistes and a fantastic new service application.

860 piste kilometres, 260 ski huts and mountain restaurants, 270 ski lifts, 25 resorts and five regions – Austria’s greatest ski paradise is now networking with its guests. Salzburger Sportwelt, the Schladming-Dachstein Region, Gastein, Hochkönig and Großarltal, with their 250 WLAN hotspots at the lift stations and huts, ensure free Internet access on the pistes. The innovation is not just a gadget for Internet junkies. Using the free WLAN net from Ski amadé and their own smartphone, skiers can send free emails, news and current photos to relatives and friends at home. And with the new free Ski amadé application one gets extra service and a lot of information delivered directly to where it is needed: on the piste.

Log in once, then always online
Every WLAN-friendly equipment – whether smartphone, iPad or laptop – can dial in free of charge from a radius around 150 metres to one of the over 250 access points in the five ski regions. The hotspots are located in numerous valley and mountain stations of the 22 cable railway companies in the Skiverbund and in some ski huts and mountain restaurants. Within the alpine area this facility from Ski amadé is the most extensive and largest of its kind. And it is really easy to use: Logging in just once is enough – and then one can use all the practical applications, the Internet and the mail programme on the piste straightaway. One does not need a password. Thus smartphone owners can share their holiday experiences with family and friends, send photos, log in to social media networks and use their favourite applications free and in real time. And all this without paying the otherwise high roaming charges.

An application with a lot of service
The “Ski amadé Guide” application is also absolutely new this season. The Guide for the smartphone is free and available for both iPhone and Android. Using the free WLAN-facility from Ski amadé one can also in fact use the application where one needs it, namely on the piste and in the lift. In comparison to competitor applications that are already known in other ski areas, the Ski amadé application offers a whole series of new facilities. A ski navigation system is the focal point. Based on the skier’s skiing ability and preferences, it shows the way from one point to the next. Or it suggests suitable routes and thus accompanies the holidaymaker effectively throughout the day. The suggestions are always suited to the personal skiing style and fitness of the user, as well as to the current weather conditions and the time of year.
Of course you can also just look at the piste map on the display and take your own route. The sections you have skied can be stored by the application, so that you can review your day’s skiing in peace and quiet in the evening. And the fun factor has not been forgotten: If asked, the application sends its users straight across the pistes onto a themed route in Ski amadé. Recommendations and descriptions for huts round off the information available on this useful application.
Naturally one can also use the application at home before one’s ski holiday has begun: Detailed information is used to describe the individual ski areas, the current weather and snow conditions are shown, one can check out room availability at the holiday resort or read through the information on the individual regions. Dr. Christoph Eisinger, Managing Director of Ski amadé, sees a major service plus in the new development: “With the largest free WLAN in the Alps and the innovative Ski amadé Guide we in Ski amadé are absolutely at the cutting edge. The point above all is to promote the distribution of digital messages from the ski destination and to give the visitor who is a skier, depending on preference, individualised information    and    recommendations    to provide an optimum ski experience. With these new facilities we can meet current trends in the travel and holiday behaviour of our guests 100%.”
