Reichelt claims giant slalom win

The man of the hour in Whistler is Hannes Reichelt. After his second place in super G the Austrian also stormed to the victory in giant slalom. Swiss Didier Cuche and Benjamin Raich from Austria became second and third.

Soft piste - difficult conditions
Two days after the successful second place in super G the 27 years old Reichelt made it to the third triumph of his career. Already in the first run the good result became obvious. By 26 hundredths of a second he crossed the finish line as third behind Benni Raich who had scored the minimum time as he profited by a hard piste wearing bib number one.

Selective final
Later on Raich lost his lead due to an aggressive run taken down by his team mate. Ted Ligety, John Kucera and Manfred Moelgg finished on places four to six. Many athletes skied out. Altogether seven skiers weren´t able to reach the finish in run two, among them also the leader in the giant slalom World Cup, Daniel Albrecht (SUI) and his compatriot Marc Berthod.
