Naturally Refreshing - A Variety of Adventures from the Valley to the Glacier!

Where the mountains kiss the valley.
The Tux-Finkenberg region in the Tyrolean Zillertal valley is a life-enhancing product of nature, taking body, mind and soul to new heights with its refreshing, close-to-nature appeal. No one can escape the charm of the Tux Valley, especially in summer, when the Hintertux Glacier and the surrounding Tux mountain landscape are adorned by trains of flowers and herb meadows. Because this is where one feels the elemental force of the mountains, the uniqueness and the alpine serenity!
Experience mountains and enjoy nature
Walking in the heart of the Alps means breathing in the fresh air, wandering freely, keeping healthy and recharging your batteries. What most impresses visitors to Tux-Finkenberg are not just the mountain tops and idyllic countryside. The following figures speak for themselves: 350km of waymarked footpaths, 150km designated Nordic walking tracks and more than 70 km of mountain bike routes, ranging from easy to demanding. If you love the mountains, this just has to be the place for you.
Exercise can be fun and the overwhelming mountain panorama is a wonderful reward for the climb. The cable cars, Wandertaxis (hiking taxis) and the free Wanderbus (hiking bus) facilitate the first stage of the climb and bring the peaks within your reach.
When the Tux and Zillertal Alps reveal every facet of their beauty in summer, the traditionally rustic mountain lodges and idyllic alpine pastures will lift you up to cloud nine. Preferences tend toward the down-to-earth and traditional values here, because who needs luxury when the panorama offers a five star spectacle!
To go on a journey of discovery with the one of the Ziller Valley Alps High-Altitude Country Park´s rangers is certainly a challenge, for there is simply so much natural beauty to take in. Go on a photo safari and take home for your album sunrise in the mountains, undertake a voyage of botanical discovery, explore the region on a llama trekking tour or venture underground on a thrilling cave research expedition into the amazing Spannagel grotto – and you will be back for more. Everyday visitors have the choice of four different walks in the Tux-Finkenberg nature paradise.

The “Tux Giant”

The Hintertux glacier is Austria´s only all-year-round ski area. At up to 3,250m above sea level, it offers glacier-cool ski and snowboarding fun - and all of this in the middle of summer. You can make use of 18km of groomed pistes, accompany guides on glacier tours. They will recount the story behind the creation of the glacier, point out the flawless beauty of a crevasse in the Nature Ice Palace, and they will not fail to point out the magnificent view over the mountain peaks from the panoramic terrace. There are simply so many options. The ascent to the Hintertux glacier is "barrier-free" – all the way from the underground car-park at the valley station at 1,500m right up to the panoramic terrace at 3,250m − by Gletscherbus (Glacierbus) 1,2 and 3.

Kid’s fun in Tux!
Tux-Finkenberg has what must be the highest children’s playground in Europe, the Gletscherflohpark (glacier flee park) at 3.250 m, which is a real adventure land for the summer holidays. Hiking on the adventure trail along the Tux Stream can be real fun! A family hike to the “Tux Giant” with burning torches and children’s festivals in Tux-Lanersbach and Finkenberg are just a few of the numerous activities that will ensure that the kids and even teenagers forget the meaning of the word “boring”. Whatever the weather, the Tux-Finkenberg Playarena always holds something exciting in store for the youngsters – with a diverse and adventurous weekly programme for all 0 to 16 year olds. Children will find it easy to make friends in the 1000 m² indoor play park or while taking part in the outdoor programme. Children staying at hotels and guest houses that are members of Playarena have free admission to the Playarena with weekly programme – but – no fear, even children who are not staying in special family hotels in the Tux Valley can book the adventure programme.

Hearty and traditional festival experiences

There’s no time for boredom in Tux-Finkenberg. Festivals are held almost every weekend. The Summer Fresh Opening Weeks are heralded by the Grand Johann Strauss Gala with Eva Lind in three-quarter-time, before the divine voices of Grenzlandchor Arnoldstein, a popular choir group from Carinthia, resound in wonderful song at the Tux Center. The Hey-Mann! Band are back in Finkenberg at the beginning of August, along with the Schürzenjäger, who will rock the mountains once again with an amazing open air concert, and the sheep and Haflinger horse alp transhumance and the Hintertux Oktoberfest will provide a wonderful demonstration of well-preserved tradition in the Tux Valley, when the mountain livestock return back to their stables and barns after spending a glorious summer on the mountain pastures.
