Marc Gini surprising winner on the Reiteralm

With a surprising win of Marc Gini from Switzerland the first World Cup slalom of the season ended on Sunday in Austria. The Swiss Marc Gini posted his first World Cup victory in 1:53.49 and finished ahead of strong Kalle Palander (FIN) and Italian Manfred Moelgg.

Gini strong in both runs
In a sensational way Marc Gini went for his first slalom victory. On November 11th the Swiss Champion convinced in both runs and was on the top of the podium for the first time in his career. With bib 19 Marc Gini set the best time in the first run despite miserable sight and difficult slope conditions. Also a strong performance showed Kalle Palander who was already in Soelden on the podium and repeated this feat on the Reiteralm. The Fin is in an excellent form at the start of the season. The same stands for Italian Manfred Moelgg who scored another podium and was happy in the finish area.

Austrians not successful
The hometeam from Austria didn´t have their best day. World Champion Mario Matt was best of his team in fifth position. Benjamin Raich came in seventh, Rainer Schoenfelder was eigth with Manfred Pranger ending up in tenth place. The best placed racer from the USA was another surprise. Jimmy Cochran was fifth after the first run and ended up in 14th place. Bode Miller finished the slalom as well and was 26th in the end.
