Ligety ahead in GS World Cup with win

Ted Ligety of the USA celebrated his first World Cup win of the season by winning the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora. Ligety was third after the first run and then executed a brilliant final run to win his second World Cup race of his career.

Two Italians on the podium
With the win Ligety moved into the World Cup GS lead with one race remaining in Bormio. Austrian Benni Raich was only 4th and lost his lead in Kranjska Gora. The last US skier to clinch the giant slalom Crystal globe was Bode Miller in 2004. Ligety was after the first run, 0,20 seconds behind the leader Massimiliano Blardone (ITA) and Manfred Moelgg. The two Italian were also on the podium in the end but couldn´t keep up with Ligety in the final run.

Miller still in the lead
Bode Miller came in as 11th and defended his lead in the Overall World Cup against Didier Cuche who finished sixth but couldn´t collect too many points. Benni Raich has to deliver way better in the slalom on Sunday to still have a chance for the Overall World Cup.
