Lidsey Vonn wins opening Downhill

Just after he finally managed to his first World Cup win of his career, Daniel Albrecht took home another victory as he won the Giant Slalom competition in Beaver Creek (USA).

Albrecht was in third position after the first run but then put down an excellent run in the final to beat Mario Matt of Austria and Didier Cuche from Switzerland. Albrecht now has already two season victories under his belt. Matt was in the end after a dramatic final run only five-hundredths behind Albrecht. Ted Ligety finished fourth and narrwoly missed another World Cup podium but took over the Giant Slalom points lead.

SKI WORLD CUPLidsey Vonn got her first downhill victory under her new name. After marrying this summer and changing her name to Vonn the 23-year-old American won in Lake Louise ahead of Austria´s Renate Götschl and Britt Janyk of Canada.

A strong performance also from Maria Riesch (GER) who finished 4th ahead of France’s Ingrid Jacquemod. Sweden’s Anja Paerson came in 7th and Nicole Hosp was 11th. Julia Mancuso, the fastest in the first training run, was only 13th this time.
