Jan Hudec wins donwhill in Lake Louise

Jan Hudec is the surprise winner of Saturday´s first men´s downhill of the season. After he set the best training time on Friday he had a great run on Saturday and beat all the favorites to secure his first World Cup win.

Difficult weather conditions
Difficult weather conditions were a big factor in the first speed race of the new World Cup season and the lower bibs had some sort of advantage. Hudec took advantage and raced down the course in great style and finished ahead of Marco Sullivan and Andreas Buder from Austria.

Big names defeated
For all the big names in downhill, it was a frustrating day. Marco Buechel was 12th, Hermann Maier 16th and Bode Miller came in as 20th. Aksel Lund Svindal and Didier Cuche tied for 17th place. Behind Buder the second best Austrian racer was 9th while Michael Walchhofer was 14th.
