Denise Karbon wins opener in Soelden

The opening race of the Alpine Skiing World Cup 2007/2008 in Soelden ended with a victory for Italy´s Denise Karbon. She won her second World Cup race of the career and beat out Julia Mancuso (USA) and Kathrin Zettel (AUT) who completed the podium.

Second World Cup win
Karbon was in second place after the first run but then had a strong final run and therefore was a deserved winner. The Italian had suffered some injuries in the past and celebrated her second World Cup win after she won in Alta Badia a few years ago.

Zettel with fastest time in the final
Zettel was only in 24th place after the first run but then posted the fastest time in the final and came all the way to third place in the end. Mancuso, who had a surgery over the summer, made an impressive comeback as well and was in 12th place after run one. But in the final she raced the difficult course really well and finished in second position. Tanja Poutiainen of Finland lead after the first run but had to satisfied with fourth place in the final.
