BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – Nov. 10, 2010 – One Ski Hill Place, Breckenridge’s first RockResort that recently opened has been recognized as one of the state’s most environmentally-friendly properties. The ski-in, ski-out property located at the base of Peak 8 in Breckenridge was certified as the Town’s first Green Globes-built property and Colorado’s highest Green Globes-rated development.
Green Globes (www.greenglobes.com) is an independent program, similar to the LEED rating system that rates and certifies properties based on its environmental attributes and sustainability on a scale that ranges from one to four globes in the following categories: energy; indoor environment; site, water; resources; emissions; and project/environmental management. After being audited by a third-party assessor, One Ski Hill Place was awarded all three of the Green Globes ratings that it had applied for as part of this green building assessment program.
“Vail Resorts Development Company designed and built One Ski Hill Place to set the standard in Breckenridge for quality, location, amenities and sustainability,” said Alex Iskenderian, chief operating officer and senior vice president of Vail Resorts Development Company (VRDC). “We think the property speaks for itself when it comes to quality. And, we knew that we wanted to do more. Vail Resorts is committed to sustainability and we wanted to build Breckenridge’s most sustainable property. With our Green Globes certification, which is the highest rating in the state of Colorado, we feel as if we’ve succeeded.”
To be granted three Green Globes, VRDC incorporated recycled content materials, energy-efficient windows, fiber cement siding, sustainable construction materials; water-saving devices like faucet and toilet sensors in the common areas, a passive solar design, engineered hardwood flooring, native stone; and US EPA Energy Star appliances and electronics, among other features
In particular, Sam Boot, a Green Globes representative, remarked that “One Ski Hill Place is a very good example of a high-performance green building and the project team was very focused on ensuring the outcome was a superb facility that was resource efficient, healthy, and with a minimal ecological footprint. The members of the team and the Owner deserve recognition for this achievement and their contribution to furthering the state of the art of green building.”
Developed by VRDC, One Ski Hill Place is comprised of ski-in/ski-out wholly-owned residences ranging from studios to four bedrooms with the highest-quality finishes located at Breckenridge’s most exclusive address - at the base of Peak 8 – that are available for vacation rentals through RockResorts at www.oneskihill.com.
