Völkl Deacon 72 (Sport Carver 2022/2023)

Ultra-agile through bends big and small, this is the ski that can do everything on the piste.

Long, medium or crisp, short turns; cruising or skiing at the limits of speed; soft slopes or hard – if you’re ambitious about performance, look no further. The Deacon with the 72 mm waist was developed for people who like to carve quickly through every radius and sometimes really let rip.

The Deacon 72 Black has been reworked from the ground up. New geometry, a widened shovel and shortened tip and tail rocker bring out the best in turns of any radius. Two less millimetres at the waist allow you to switch edges even faster and with less effort. Its versatility is magnified by Tailored Carbon Tips. Carbon fibres applied using Völkl’s exclusive Tailored Fibre Placement (TFP) process allow our engineers to influence curve behaviour with great accuracy. The strength and alignment of the fibres define the force you need to apply and the energy that builds up where it’s needed. Agile shovel reaction is a feature of special note. This means that as soon as you initiate a turn, the ski begins to steer in a measured and controlled manner, depending on how the edges are employed. This construction also allows means less weight without any loss of stability. Last but not least, TFP allows our designers to tailor every length to the requirements of each target group.

The whole Deacon range is made with 3D.Glass at the front and rear areas, while the ski is built around our renowned multilayer wood core featuring a mix of poplar and beech. Two full layers of Titanal give the ski its familiar vigour. The Deacon 72 Black’s ride is also enhanced by the new R-Motion 3 GW binding. A shortened plate combined with a wider hole pattern delivers stronger, more direct power transmission and helps you switch edges quicker. The real highlight, however, is that the two rear screws are no longer fixed, allowing the binding to slide freely. With improved edge grip, the ski moves harmoniously through the entire line of the bend without being blocked. All in all, it takes noticeably less strength to turn with the Deacon 72 Black. For younger and lighter riders, the Deacon 72 Black is now available for the first time in a length of below 160 cm – 158 to be precise.

The Deacon 72 is available in red and black. The Deacon 72 Black comes in fine metallic black and cut-outs in the logo reveal the carbon fibres in the Tailored Carbon Tips.

TAILORED CARBON TIPS
In this innovative manufacturing process the new Tailored Carbon Tips are produced by embroidering the individual carbon fibers onto a carrier material. The stiffness, torsion and thus the skiing characteristics can be specifically adjusted via the fiber thickness and millimeter-precise alignment. In this way, the fibers guide the dynamics to the areas of the ski where they are needed. The visibly integrated Tailored Carbon Tips are light, allow an agile shovel reaction with less effort and quickly build up energy. The Tailored Carbon Tips thus reach a new level of precision, direct tip response and active skiing pleasure.

3D.GLASS
3D.GLASS is Völkl’s development to furthermore improve overall ski performance and stability even in critical snow conditions. Compared to classic glass constructions the three-dimensional and multiple-folded glass layers in the tip and in the tail area result in an increased edge grip and a more vivid rebound behavior in turns.

FULL TITANAL
The titanium setup makes the ski agile and dynamic. Especially friends of a hard, fast and aggressive riding style benefit from the quick response of this construction.

MULTILAYER WOODCORE
The combination of beech and poplar results in an extremely durable wood core composed of hard wood in the binding area and lighter wood around.

At the 2022/2023 WorldSkitest the skis in the category „Men High Performance“ were closely evaluated at Silvretta Montafon. Tester’s opinion: "To really enjoy the "Völkl Deacon 72", you need a bit of strength, technique, and fitness. A ski that's hard to beat when it comes to versatility and did underperform a little in the WST. The high performer missed that very well” narrowly. Visually top, he received bronze in Snowstyle. The attractive price is a non-negligible selling point."
